I've listened to this CD hundreds of times. It's highly energetic ! To my humble opinion, Anita's powerful voice is surely comparable in quality to that of Billie Holliday. People who don't particularly enjoy big bands may feel there's too much brass in the music and not fully appreciate this CD. Anyway, for someone who likes swing, it's definitely worth buying. What a voice !

Not nearly as juicy as her Verves from the 50's & 60's, but historically important and still highly enjoyable sides none the less. Worth getting if you're a fan of swing era singers or Anita O'Day.

This fine disc features Pete Johnson backing up Big Joe, which ties in with Johnson's disc, 1938-39 (CC 656) where Turner appears on three tracks he wrote with Johnson, e.g. "Cherry Red," etc. All these discs are highly recommended.
Also, tie in Willie "The Lion" Smith, 1938-40 (CC 692) for more great Turner tracks with an outstanding pianist.
