Les Brown's music is as American as mom's apple pie; and always listenable. His sound is mainstream without being too commercial.
The Les Brown band is a more modern version of Larry Clinton's band - who Les arranged for in his early years. Les always
used high caliber musicians. He really made a mark with his 1953 Coral recordings: "Les Brown: Concert At The Palladium",
volumes 1 and 2. The CD title "Best Of..." is misleading. It is the best that the Les Brown band offered in that year
(not given) but not a genuine retrospective. Worth buying anyway. He's playing some good tunes.

Even Better Than Volumes 1 And 2

As I indicated in my review of Volumes 1 (sub-titled Stagedoor Canteen) and 2 (sub-titled Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy), this 4-volume
series came out in 1990 from Capitol/SM Special Products. Whereas the first volume included three re-makes of original hits,
and the second had one which I found questionable, this one includes all original renditions.
The sub-title is "Homecoming" and, as indicated in the one-page liner notes, "the popular music of the time ... buoyed us up, cheered and charged us with its spirited optimistic sentiments."
The sound quality is excellent and this may be regarded as a real bargain at the price asked. Recommended.
