Ragtime Music

If you are a fan of piano rags don't miss this one! I can listen to it a lot. The way David Thomas plays is not too fast or too slow. Having just the right feeling of emotional sentiment, the music is never cloying or flashy. Something for a happy yet reflective mood. Enjoy!

David Thomas Roberts is an outstanding ragtime piano player, but the best thing about this CD is the selection of rags. Many of the rags are not on any other recordings but were very popular folk pieces at the turn of the last century. I especially enjoy the Charles Hunter pieces such as Cotton Bolls and Possum & Taters. I would rate it as one of the best ragtime collections available.

Great muscians(includes Joe Muranyi cl.,Terry Waldo piano,Hal Smith drums John Gill drums and some vocals by Leon Redbone and others. 5 of Jelly Roll Mortons tunes. There is Swing, pop ragtime and the influence of the great Bix Beiderbecke. I also have the 2nd CD titled. 'Sweet and Kinky'. Very pleasant to listen to over and over again I'm listening to "Footlight Varieties" as I write this review.

This album is an amazing display of virtuosity, and that is heard in more than one style of music. The duo's chemistry is stunning, and all tracks are beautifully musical. There is no other album like this.

For Lack of Better Words is a tremendous effort by the Liam Teague - Robert Chappell duo. I've been a music lover my entire life, with tastes running from classical to rock to jazz to world. This CD covers several musical styles, and at the highest level I might add - these guys can really play!! I suspect there are many music lovers out there who are not very familiar with the possibilities on steel pan, or for that matter, of a duo such as this. This recording is a great addition to anybody's CD collection.

This is a truly unique recording to treasure. Hyman and his protege, John Sheridan, do great justice to these wonderful novelty piano pieces from the 20's and the 30's.


Listening to them brings back memories of hearing my Grandmother play these wonderful, forgotten pieces. Cannot recommend it enough.

Dick Hyman and his partner are in top form. I have always thought Mr. Hyman's piano is a delight, but this is one of the most delightful confections I have heard in a long time! Bravo!

it doesn't get much more fun and silly than this! these guys obviously had a fantastic time making this album - i'm especially fond of the last track, complete with silly barnyard animal noises. you'll enjoy this - it is an album that should definitely be described as a "romp."
