Artension is a prog metal band with focus around the keyboardist versus a guitarist. The vocalist at times sounds a lot like Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Impelliteri) and the songs are generally catchy. The lyric department could use a little work... "Show me the answers to questions within my heart" pleas the band on the first track "Area 51.." Since when are questions about aliens heart felt? And then there's "Through the Gate" with the oh so original "Through the gate... it's too late..." Otherwise, this group seems to have some potential, check them out if you like other progressive metal acts like Dream Theater, Stratovarius, Rhapsody, etc...

I found this band by accident, and before I heard them, figured them to be some lame band with the typical 666, Hail Satan, evil, etc. band that tried too hard to be evil. I couldn't have been more wrong! You can just feel the malice from this album! Destroyer 666 is among the best metal bands to ever be! Probably my favorite band.

But this album, something that is really rare, is that there are no songs that should be skipped. Usually, even really good bands have some songs that just need to be skipped. Not this one. Go and buy it. Now!

I would rate this is 6 stars if it were possible. This is a phenominal album. It's epic, dark, heavy, and badass! Get this if you are a fan of death/black/thrash metal. It is a perfect blend of these three genres, and manages to not sound like any of the three. It's unlike anything I've ever heard. Every track is 10/10.

Elite Satanic War Metal !

The latest offering by D666 is absolutely killer. It conveys the same hate-ridden diabolical spirit as "Unchain the Wolves". This time around, however, Warslut & Co. have added more depth and distinction to the songs, giving each one its own unique feel. Two songs, "I am the Wargod" and "Lone Wolf Winter", even have melodic parts. The lyrics are excellently written and are from a somewhat Nietzschean perspective. A spoken word sample serves as the album's intro and as a manifesto of the misanthropic sentiment that never lets up on this recording. The musicianship is also better than ever. This album is a must for any fan of extreme metal !

I love all of Destroyer 666's awesome fire spewing death/thrash style of metal, but this album is the best since it has so many firey goodies on it!! The best song by far is "Ride The Solar Winds", mainly becuase its about riding the winds directly descended from the sun, a huge firemass that rules supreme, plus its got some unique sinister brimstone riffs all around!!! In the song "Rise Of The Predator" it has the awesome line "The fire, the desire to live", I say right on, fire brings you life brother!! Also in the song "Phoenix Rising" is the awesome line "Oh to be reborn in fire, Oh to reap the reward of power"!! Right on man, these guys realize that fire indeed brings you power!!! This is true fire worshipping at its best, so be a brother of the flame and pick up a copy or three!!!...

When I listen to Pheonix Rising, I can picture in my mind an army of demons storming the gates of heaven. As the final notes of The Birth Of Tragedy play, I envision paradise exterminated. Satan now takes the throne and bangs his head to Destroyer 666. Pheonix Rising is just that damn good all the way through.

Dont let anyone tell you that omar&the howlers are Creedence clones From the the moment the blast of omars voice comes growling out of your speakers complete with feedback you have a rare talent out of the same town as Bo Diddley and lately out of the home of rocking blues Austin Texas Crank up the barbecue ,grab a beer and invite a few friends round and set the neighbourhood alight rocking with a slab of pure swamp blues If your foot fails to tap to the beat, ring your local doctor as you must be dead. So in brief ,if swirling organs and chugging guitars combined with a voice out of the deepest part of the gravel pit are your prescription for a tonic for the drabness of life so take this with the greatest urgency

You could call me a completist as I have everything ever released by omar and the howlers From the first bars the swamp oozes out of the stereo speakers complete with feedback . many have compared omar with creedence but get real,he has continued and grown, they were at the end heading in a heavier track They must feed singers a diet of pure gravel with a dose of passion ,I am not a 50's style rock fan but this blast from 1987 has its roots in little richard and buddy holly. It is still timeless music that the toes tap to

Another Great Live Rick Derringer Document

LIVE AT THE PARADISE THEATER is yet another great CD documenting Rick Derringer's talents as a live performer. The songs are all great, showing the lessons he'd learned from working with Johnny and Edgar Winter about how to blend blues, soul, and R&B with pure rock. If you buy this CD, ALL AMERICAN BOY, DERRINGER, DERRINGER LIVE, and his work with Johnny and Edgar Winter, you'll have the perfect Rick Derringer library.

Review Date: 2006-08-15
A mere two years after the (rather short but) excellent live outing "Derringer Live", on the heels of the band Derringers albums "Derringer" and "Sweet Evil", Rick Derringer comes up with another showstomper under the monniker "Derringer" again, which suggests being the name of the band but is unsure whether at that time that band still existed. After the 3 aforementioned albums that band at least dissolved and Rick Derringer picked up his solo-carriere. He then released the studio LP "If I weren't so romantic I'd shoot you" from which a few songs are culled in this radio broadcasted concert, on which only bassplayer Kenny Aaronson from the now defunct band is present, together with 2 new players on guitar and drums. Where the aforementioned "Live" was a real hard rockalbum, with plenty of guitarsoloing, this latter album is more straigth, run of the mill. Some oldies are present ("Let me in", "Teenage Love Affair", "Beyond the Universe" and of course the showstopper "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo", including excerpt from the Kinks' "You really got me" - that is long before Van Halen repeated the trick - are also on 1976 "Live"), "Roll with me" dates from his time with Johnny Winter, together with new songs, one penned and mainly performed by the rythm-section, another by Warren Zevon. Anyway, Derringer, being the sole musician or being the new band, surely could play a steaming liveset with lots of guitars throwed in. Even if half of this setlist is already recorded live shortly before it is enjoyable to listen to.

This is what you call LIVE!

Have you ever wondered what a great rock concert would sould like captured on CD? Well pick this up and you will find out in spades!!!!!!!!
The wild guitar rock never stops on this album.
It opens with a Derringer standard Let Me In. Eventually you are led to Midnight Road, one of Rick's best songs and it sounds even better here live than it did on the studio album.
Plus check out Roll With Me.The intensity is so hot you'll be calling the fire dept.!!!!!!!

Taken during one of Derringer's best periods. This performance is not with one of his best lineups, but is definately one of his best song lists. If you appreciate "If I weren't so romantic...", You'll love the rare live versions from that Album here. Would rate the overall CD higher, but the other tunes are better on other compilations.

EXCELLENT LIVE CD BY GUITAR GOD RICK DERRINGER. ALTHOUGH THIS LINEUP IS NOT THE ORIGINAL AND BEST DERRINGER LINEUP, MYRON GROMBACHER ON DRUMS AND NEIL GERALDO ON GUITAR AND KEYBOARDS (AND BOTH OF PAT BENETAR FAME) DO MORE THAN A CAPABLE JOB OF FILLING IN FOR THE DEPARTED VINNY APPICE (DRUMS) AND DANNY JOHNSON (GUITAR). ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT THIS CD IS YOU GET 5 TRACKS FROM THE VERY HARD TO FIND ON CD "IF I WEREN'T SO ROMANTIC, I'D SHOOT YOU", AS WELL AS THE USUAL DERRINGER GEMS.
A MUST OWN FOR ANY AND ALL RICK DERRINGER FANS. BANDS JUST DON'T PLAY LIKE THIS ANYMORE.

Great Rock'n'Roll Soul
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-19
This is a great collection, combining influences from '50's rock'n'roll, '60's soul, & blues, but doesn't sound the least bit dated. There's not a weak track on the album, but some of my favorites include "I Don't Want to Go Home", the swaggering "Got Me Where She Wants" & "The Fever", "Talk to Me", "Trapped Again", "This Time Baby's Gone For Good" and OF COURSE fantastic covers of "Having a Party" & "Stagger Lee". If you like artists such as Bob Seger & The J. Geils Band, you'll probably want this one. Great horn-driven rock'n'roll.

Southside Johnny ALWAYS delivers!

If you're a fan of Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, this CD will need no intro. As good as these guys are in the studio, they're even better when performing live. Over the last 25 years, they've built a live reputation that rivals Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band's. It's no coincidence that most of Southside's hits were either written, or co-written by Bruce Springsteen; they both came out of the same New Jersey bar band scene, and frequently played together. This CD captures the Jukes at their best: performing in a small club, sweaty, raucous, and noisy. And this CD also captures some of their best music: the "Hearts of Stone" tour. "Hearts of Stone" was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the top 100 albums of all time, and one listen to the lyrics shows why. It is one of the best albums ever made about relationships, good and bad. Rounding out this powerhouse set is "Stagger Lee", and finishing with two Christmas gems: "Santa Claus is Back in Town", and "Merry Christmas Baby". Although this performance is from December of 1978, it sounds as fresh and energetic as if it was performed last Saturday night. For any SSJ and the Jukes fan, or anybody who enjoys R&B, Rock & Soul, don't miss this CD. Southside ALWAYS delivers!

The next best thing to a live show!

Review Date: 2000-07-18
Although this may be "rough" around the edges as opposed to a studio remixed "live" album this one is truer to the heart of a Jukes show. As a veteran of over 30 Southside concerts I know how the Jukes sound live and this album is the nest best thing. Unlike the version of "The Fever" on "Reach Up and Touch the Sky" the one included on this CD is soulful and sexy and truer to the original. (And for that matter even better than the version Bruce released on "Tracks".) For those who have never seen SSJ live the full band version, (with the Miami Horns!), of "Love on the Wrong Side of Town" is the perfect introduction. This CD is a must for all fans of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

classic live album
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2003-06-23
This is a classic live album by a better-live-than-in-the-studio band. This is a band you need to see live to appreciate. They combine many of the Jersey Shore music elements into a great group with a wild frontman, keys/organs, an amazing guitarist, and a horn section that includes TWO sax players and trumpet.

However don't be mistaken. Although their sound is different from the E-Street Band, Southside Johnny and the ASBURY (they're from Jersey, not San Francisco) Jukes, is definitely a Springsteen-related band. 5 songs on this were written by Springsteen. 3 of those songs were co-written with Steve Van Zandt of the E-Street Band, who also wrote 5 of the other songs alone. This is a good selection of songs, but some classics like Hearts of Stone (another Springsteen-written song) are unfortunately missing. A great introduction to a classic and underappreciated band.

Live albums can be a mixed bag, a poor recording, too much audience sound, and of course, some bands just sound terrible without the help of a good studio mixer and slick production tricks. Some top "acts" don't even play together without studio muscians cleaning up their poor sound. If that is your fear with this album, fear not, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were born to play together, and to be heard live.

The "Jersey" sound they put out is equal to anything the "Boss" did during his various stints touring with the E Street Band, and surpasses many if not all of his attempts to be a live solo performer. True, there is no "Big Man" on sax but as Mark Knoplfer would say, "that trumpet sound blowing insane" for this band uses horns the way they were meant to be played with Rock n Roll, reminescent of Blood Sweat and Tears or even Chicago while they were known as Chicago Rapid Transit and not that whinning, boring commercial sound they devolved into after their second album.

Does this band and album party, you betcha. Even before they play their aptly titled "Having a Party" signature song and "Stagger Lee" and its comical segue into "Santa Clause is Back" Southside Johhny and the boys know how to entertain and give you and the audience one great show. Sure, everybody who is a fan of a band tells you "This is the greatest live album ever, a must have." Well, no hype here, everyone's tastes are different and I've not heard every live album ever made. I do own a number of "bootleg" albums and a large number of commercially recorded live albums (this helps me to know when and when not to pay the extremely high prices concert promoters fleece you for these days) and this live album has moved into my favorites. While listening to Southside Johnny and this album for the first time, my son was in the room with me and though he had never heard them (or even heard of them) he thought theirs was a great sound and this a fine album. I enjoyed my first exposure to an entire Southside Johhny experience so much, I got back on line and ordered more Southside Johnny and the Ashbury Jukes. If those are even half as entertaining, I might break down and even try a studio recording or two. So let yourself and some friends have a party, stick this CD in your mix and play this one Friday night for them. You won't regret you did. And if Southside Johnny and the Ashbury Jukes come to your town, don't fear wasting your concert dollars.
