A Wonderfully Eclectic Selection
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.

One warning: this should be called "Victor Records' Greatest Jazz Hits of the Late 1920s." (It's fairly selective.) Given that, it's a wonderful sampler--2 classic Fats Waller piano tracks, Coleman Hawkins' great 1929 version of "One Hour," some very young Benny Goodman. What you hear on this CD is the solo-oriented jazz that fell between Dixieland and swing. No record company--or single CD, for that matter--captures that perfectly, but this one does a pretty good job for the money.

One of the Greatest Jazz Piano albums ever....

...and one of the greatest albums of music period. Do you want to feel good? Play this album! Hundred-percent guaranteed to put you in a good mood. Great piano playing, beautiful romantic melodies understated with the utmost in 'cool jazz' sensibility, unparalleled musicianship, what else do you want? I have over 2000 records in my collection & this is one of my top twenty or thirty favorites. Anyone ever tells you they don't like jazz, you can bet they haven't heard this album yet. This also happens to be the absolute best introduction to jazz next to Dave Brubeck's "Time Out," Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" & Stan Getz/Charlie Byrd "Jazz Samba."

I recently viewed this tape at my school library. I was amazed to see the good picture quality and great sound. The only let down was that I felt the video is too short in length. Nevertheless, it's Louis Armstrong along with other great players like Trummy Young and Billy Kyle. The songs are awesome to hear but it is even better to see Louis and his band play them. A must for Armstrong fans!!!! It is NOT a documentary, it is strictly Louis Armstrong at his best singing the songs we have come to love so much. A great video and I highly recommend it.
