If the song that you thought had a "brazil flavor" was acoustic, it is by russian musician Zhenya Rock, with the band ZEEROK. I cant think of the song title off the top of my head, but it is on his website (...). Hope that was what you were looking for

Leaving JOHN LENNON out is horrible--and I have another question--there was a song I recognized with a Brazil flavor--when Weaver and Gene were on the couch later in the movie (soon before he dies),and it a lovely song--and it is just not there. These soundtracks are often a rip-off because I often get more excited about the soundtrack than the movie--does anyone remember the song I am talking about? THANKS!

They left out the best song in the movie!!!!!

When I was a young girl I used to love a song in the movie Little Darlings: "Oh My Love". It sounded like John Lennon. But when I got older I bought Double Fantasy and His Greatest Hits, and there was no "Oh My Love". Then a couple of months ago I was watchinh Heartbreakers(I hated it) and "Oh My Love" went on and my heart leaped...I could finally buy this beautiful song. So I go on here lookin for the Heartbreakers soundtrack and lo and behold, some of you Reviewers are tellin me it aint on there! What were they thinkin???? That songs the only redeeming factor of the movie. sigh. Guess I'll have to look for "Imagine"

Oh My Love - John Lennon

I enjoyed Heartbreakers and thought the soundtrack would be awesome... sadly, it did not have one of the best songs played in the movie "Oh my Love" by John Lennon. I noticed some other people mentioned it on here, as well. If you are looking for a place to find it, try Anthology (4 cd box set) CD 1 or Imagine. Once again, the soundtrack was OKAY but they really should have included Lennon!

I got this disc on an impulse, trying to add to my slowly growing collection of classical guitar music. This is one impulse buy I do not regret! The selections are very mellow and relaxing, and they seem to mesh together well as if logically following one another. Graham Anthony Devine is truly "Devine" in my book. His technique is awe-inspiring, and his phrasing is subtle and precise. It's obvious he is enjoying himself a great deal playing this music. His disc has quickly become one of my all-time favorites. As a guitarist he ranks right up there with the very best and can easily be compared to John Williams or Pepe Romero, among others. Highly recommended!

This guy's a GOOD player: great facility and no rhythmic quirks. I also have his British Guitar disc (NAXOS) and it's just as stunning. This is the way younger players want to present the guitar: clean, unaffected, straight ahead and honest, allowing the music to speak for itself free of arbitrarily imposed excesses of histrionic, pseudo-romantic "feeling". What a relief to hear playing like this!

This is the kind of album that's satisfying even just in concept. Too many classical guitarists think of Brazilian music as Villa-Lobos, Pernambuco, Jobim, Bonfa and nobody else. There's so much more. And how great is it that the one V-L tune included here is the rarely-heard "Sentimental Melody" from FOREST OF THE AMAZON (in an arrangement by Carlos Barbosa-Lima), the last major work by that composer?

The only thing I find to complain about is the very low volume of the disc.

I took a chance and bought this album. What a welcome suprise! Don't let the cover fool you, this is a collection of outstanding and heartfelt jazz. From upbeat New Orleans style, to the soulful strains of the blues, this is a full plate of clarinet-led quartet gold. What a tone! What a glissado!
What music!
I'm not an audiophile, so I won't discuss the technical merits of this album, but it sounds great to me!

Candlelight, wine - and Josep.....
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-07
The recipe for a perfect romantic evening is candlelight, a bottle of wine and of course - Josep. This is the most romantic collection of songs in a very long time. And José Carreras's sensual voice is perfect for this kind of repertoire. One of the really good things about him is that he's capable of singing these songs without crooning. And like always he makes it sound like the words are born within him. In the song "the first time ever I saw your face" he sings about that wonderful feeling we get when we experience things in love for the first time. Listening to him singing "the first time ever I kissed your mouth".... makes your heart skip a beat and your knees go all wobbly.... And when he gets to the part with "the first time ever I lay with you" you're drooling.... In the song "what are you doing the rest of your life?" he's singing "I'll awake what's asleep in your eyes. It may take a kiss or two..." And I'm out of breath again.....

Other favourite songs on this album are "besame mucho", "somewhere" and "the summer knows". The only song I feel doesn't do it for me is "amigos para siempre", the duet with Sarah Brightman. She's not a good match for him. I think she sounds much too "girlish". Still, it's just a minor "hickup" in this recording.

But really, you should listen to the album and judge for yourself. How he does it I do not know, but he sings with such intensity and honesty that you almost start believing in true love again. And in the end - isn't that the purpose of lovesongs???

When Amor de Gente Moça (not "Mocau", for Jobim's sake!) was released in 1959, Sylvia Telles was already acknowledged as a major singer. She'd had one huge popular hit, Amendoim Torradinho, and recorded a handful of Jobim songs as singles. But AGM, coming right after Elizete Cardoso's Canção do Amor Demais (first all-Jobim & Vinícius de Moraes album) and João Gilberto's debut album Chega de Saudade, was the very first all-Jobim-music album ever, and not only consolidated him as a major composer but also laid the final cornerstone to what would have been known as "bossa nova". Furthermore, it established Sylvia as *the* female bossa nova voice.

Even before that, she was already a "modern" singer on her own, veering away from the "operistic" voice until then predominant among Brazilian female singers. Not that she lacked what it would have taken: she had the range, the strength, the vibrato and knew how to use them - when and if needed. Otherwise, she could, and would, croon and/or "bop" - again, as needed.

"Gente Moça". Sylvia was just that, "young people". A young voice, singing the songs of youth, from and to a country that, at the time, was bursting at the seems with youthful energy.
