This is a great introduction to the bossa nova-based jazz of the 60's. I'd start here and see if you like it, then branch out into the actual albums by some of the other related artists (some of whom can be found on this cd).
The music is really smooth, calm, soothing, very tropical, world feel to it. The Portugeuse language sounds so beautiful.
A nice vibe to mellow out to. Good stuff!

Definitely a good buy for someone with an appreciation for good music.

Antonio Carlos Jobim The Composer Of Desafinado, Plays For Keeps, Winning Hearts, Rewarding ListenersReview Date: 2007-10-16
As a child, they need to grow up early and turn to music to fill a void, after losing his father, Jobim would've vascillated between child and care provider to look after his grieving mother.
An influental figure like Jobim's Uncle will come into play encouraging the child to turn from childhood games to serious music study.
While other children will be inclined to ignore their studies and play in the streets, something will have clicked for Jobim while sitting at the family piano practicing scales, the young artist will see a broad canvas to fill.
The young man will play in bars to what Jobim described as playing to the chatting drunks, the clink of ice water is in every good piano player's keys.
The fledgling artist, always on the outside looking in, trying to figure out how the world works, working bars, watching people drink their ill gotten earnings, pretty wives lighting up a vibrant lounge, always having to follow a different set of rules than the ones exercised in the everyday world.
A stab at College, and back to what the artist does best, making music, for himself, longing to enrapture a loyal throng of devoted listeners, record buyers and concertgoers.
A lucky break, an Agent, a Lawyer, Record Executives, Contracts, product to promote, songs climbing the billboard charts, fancy engagements, new contacts, gaining widespread popularity, the artist pinching themselves, to determine if all this new found success is for real.
A new original sound that's Pop, vital and Contemporary, a voice of a new Generation.
Using this new found power for some leverage, having a say how a piece is put together and exercise some artistic control, and always some folding money to spread around, the result of capturing world attention.
And in 1963 when Jobim was young enough to enjoy his new found success, a new album produced by New York's very own Verve Records, in the heart of Tin Pan Alley, a town Jobim would consign himself for most his life.
Antonio Carlos Jobim The Composer of Desafinado, Plays, hot wax, a new sound with a very personal spin, flute combined with single piano notes, very delicate but possessing some muscle, the heart of the Samba, music not as reminiscant of the coffee houses as the College Campuses, new found freedom.
Forging ahead, curious what's around the next corner.
As a young child in the early 60's, I enjoyed our Composer's saturated radio airplay.
It's in his face.
Jobim's music will put things right.
Antonio Carlos Jobim The Composer Of Desafinado, Plays is here for the long haul.

Claus' work for Jobim so impressed him that Claus was asked to arrange more and more LPs for Tom. Tom eventually wound up calling Claus "The Meister" and one listen to this LP will tell anyone WHY. After all the study I have done on both these men, I am firmly convinced that Jobim time and time again would have continued to use Claus as his arranger - if Claus had agreed. It is clear from everything I know that the feeling was mutual and that Claus considered Tom a VERY good friend. They even spent "after hours" together in conversation about the subjects that interested Jobim: the environment, music, the classics - everything. Claus declined to arrange for Tom again after 1980 only due to wanting to spend the majority of his time composing classical music and therefore forsaking his arranging days...I have a feeling that even after 1980, Tom would continue to call Claus just to see if he had indeed changed his mind...
So, we have two heavyweight talents on this album - the mighty Tom Jobim with his sweet bossa novas - and Claus Ogerman with his equally sweet treatment of those wonderful melodies and harmonies. Listen carefully to the talents of both men and see how on each track, their work compliments each other.
When you don't feel so right with the world or are having a bad day, listen to a track on this album and see for yourself if you don't almost instantly feel better. This is an extremely uplifting album in so many ways - the tracks will make your spirit soar!
