Antonio Carlos Jobim Music

This is an excellent CD. It contains a variety of styles, ranging from serious to more fun and jazzy, and all pieces are highly enjoyable.

There are many clarinet ensemble CDs out there that contain mostly transcriptions/arrangements, such as Clarinet Evergreens from Naxos. Those CDs are great, but I think this CD has an added edge in that it is equally satisfying, and contains some excellent pieces from the clarinet ensemble repertoire, written specifically for clarinet ensemble.

My personal favorite pieces from this disc are Tomasi's Trios Divertissments & Fernandez's (arr) Muskrat Sousa, though all the pieces are great. If you like the clarinet or just good music, you should defintely pick up this CD. You won't regret it.

It's a shame that so much talent (Rosa Passos is an amazing singer and I like her very much) and so many great musicians I admire like: Joao Donato, Cristovao Bastos, Lula Galvao, Carlos Malta, Ze Nogueira, Wilson Das neves, Marco Brito, and many more; could not come up with such a great project with something ground-breaking, something that could blow you away; this is a "just good" homage to Maestro Tom Jobim, but nothing more, very bland arrangements; something hundreds of people have done in the past; so in order to receive 4 or 5 stars in a project like this, they should have WAY MORE to show, they should be outstanding.
Hopefully Almir Chediak can put more attention to details like that; producers and arrangers are like coaches; they could have a great team, but if they don't guide them right, their performance is nothing more than just regular.

P.S. I don't know why people who do some of these tribute albums to Tom Jobim, never include some other great compositions of him like : "O Nosso Amor" or "Eu Preciso De Voce"; they all play the same all songs over and over with nothing outstanding.

Soft, sensual and absolutely fabulous! Rosa Passos is without any doubt one of the greatest brazilian singers ever! Her voice is simply miraculous! I discovered her by chance about two years ago, and the more I get to know her work the more I like her! She has great style and really, a fantastic voice!

This CD is filled with most of the great classic Bossa Nova songs, like Corcovado, Garota de Ipanema, Insensatez, Desafinado, Chega de saudade, and many, many more, all of them sung with amazing sensibility and beauty!

This is a must for those who love classic Bossa Nova! It's so easy to love Rosa Passos!!!

This CD this is the best Bossa Nova CD ever. She took classics and put her own sound to it. I played it once in my office and over 30 clients and employees wanted it on the spot. I travel to Brazil quite often and never heard anything that is quite comparable. It makes me sad and happy at the same time. If you want to fall in love or make someone fall in love with you, buy the CD.

Yet, the guitar music is beautiful, but the pace seems a bit too slow in parts. He does not do justice to the song, "Stone Flower". I might but the CD anyway because Jobim is the Master!

For pure virtuosity, I have heard few guitarists that can match this guy. If you love guitar music or bossa nova, definitely pick this one up. "Manha de Carnaval" and "Passeio no Rio" are breathtaking.

Barbosa-Lima arranges and plays the Jobim masterfully. He really understands the samba/bossa nova guitar rhythm, offers us interesting and beautiful arrangement, and is an accomplished technical guitarist. I can't quite figure out why the Jobin and Gershwin are mixed on one CD, but much of the Gershwin is worth having as well.

This fabulous concert comprises Brazilian melodies, both traditional and those composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim, with the ample talents of Paulo Jobim, Mario Adnet, and many top Brazilian arrangers and musicians. I was lucky enough to witness a live rehearsal of this concert last spring in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Very impressive! Lush melodies, orchestral arrangements of depth and complexity, the vocal majesty of Milton Nascimento and many others; all of the above add up to a very satisfying musical experience to anyone who loves the rich tasty delight that is Brazilian music.

Jobim loves people, and gets excited about all kinds of things, I'm sure there's certain pieces by Debussy and Ravel that made Jobim red in the face because they are so beautiful.

How does an Artist manage to be influenced and still make a work of art their own?

Love and desire.

Symphonic Jobim strikes me as being very Nationalistic, a sort of spiritual road map to the heart of the World, and what better way to celebrate one's roots by drawing on the panorama of Rio and Brazil, or, Brasil.

Frank Loyd Wright once said, Architecture is frozen Music.

I was raised on Debussy and Ravel, but they're a little before my time, Symphonic Jobim puts life's panorama in perspective for me.

I don't have to be near a pretty picture window to drink in the scenery when I listen to Symphonic Jobim, the beautiful motifs conjure all kinds of pictures and feelings.

Every recording becomes a by product of the time period it was made, but Symphonic Jobim has a certain timelessness attached to it... it is a perfect piece of music beginning to end.

Symphonic Jobim, a Project by Paulo Jobim and Mario Adnet, does much credit to its' Composer. Good Job!
