Looking at the names in this live quartet recording - Roy Haynes, Steve Swallow and Gary Burton - one would have expected
a great Getz recording. It is not. Getz sounds harried and uninspired on most numbers. This impression is partly produced
by a very unbalanced recording: Roy Haynes, a regular in Getz' groups since 1961, is surely one of the greatest drummers in
jazz history, but not necessarily the best drummer for Getz - is here miked up front in a very annoying and distracting manner.
There is much better stuff by Getz to choose from.

This is one of the best records which Stan Getz ever made. Recorded during the years 1958-60 in Stockholm with the major jazz
musicians from Sweden. The swedish piano players Jan Johansson and Bengt Hallberg made the arrangements in 8 entire recording
sessions. The real star of these marvellous recordings was the late Lars Gullin, who played bariton sax like Gerry Mulligan.
Benny Bailey (he is from US) played wonderful trumpet. This 2 cd is really worth to look for. It was recorded in a swedish
Dragon label. [...]

Difficult to find - I searched for 3 years to get a copy of this!
The is Stan Getz after his exile to Sweden in the late fifties. If not for his Swedish wife whisking him off to avoid him getting busted for his bad habits, he might have ended up like Art Pepper.
Well recorded.
The backup band is competent but doesn't push him to excel. He stands out in some cuts, in others he plays his "Brothers" type harmonies with local sax players.
balanced with ballads and swing tempo tunes, not much fast bebop. I like "Topsy". Uniformly pleasant and tuneful.
3 to 3 1/2 stars = a tuneful record the quality of the majority of his output if not better.
