Very nice CD, although short at a little less than half an hour. If you can pick this one up cheaply, then it is well worth
the money. The Everest label recorded in early audiophile quality, using magnetic film stock tape to make the masters.
The first four numbers are Brazilian-influenced Byrd compositions, and the last four selections are a re-creation of Ralph Burns' four-part "Summer Sequence".
It is delightful music, but you will have to listen yourself to get the full flavor of it.
A couple of the Byrd tracks can also be found on the Everest/Empire Woody Hermann CD, which is also worth a listen.

Charlie Byrd made some wonderful recordings but this is not one of them. The mix of accompanying instruments is truly terrible
and production is poor.
If you want a great Byrd cd, try Blue Byrd. I play it over and over and never get tired of it.

I have two pieces of this CD in my Byrd collection, older one is damaged of use and borrowing...
Excellent recording, "laserlight", for audiophiles and collectors of Charlie - MUST HAVE rule!
High quality is result of Direct to Disc recording process(=live music on disk, no corrections afterwards, limited playing time 33 min.)
As I like Mr. Byrd very much, can warmly recommend to listeners with similar taste!

This is a great jazz guitar sampler. It features performances by Kenny Burrell, Les Paul, Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Bucky
Pizzarelli, Charlie Byrd, Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, Herb Ellis & Grant Green. Clearly all players deserving of the moniker
"Jazz Guitar Great". The only knock against the cd might be that a few of the older tracks sound scratchy (no doubt due to
the source material) but the dynamic playing more than compensates for that. My favorite track is Charlie Byrd's version of
"Moonlight Serenade" in which he gives it a whole new flavor by playing it with a latin beat. The price for this high quality
cd can't be beat. My advice is to grab it while you can!

I've enjoyed this one since '75, and still listen to it often. This is not groundbreaking stuff. Just great melodies played
by great musicians. Laid back bossa nova, best enjoyed after dinner. For this $6.99 price, you can't go wrong!
Solid but lacking drive

A good album with some sound playing by Charlie Byrd and attempts by Cal Tjader to stay tuned into the mainstream and Brazilian-flavored
jazz. Byrd plays acoustic and electric guitars with his usual elegance but quite often lacks inventive, Tjader is definitely
not in his best shape, sometimes sounding even dull and bored. Some fine examples of playing by the backing musicians bring
the overall rating to an album that is good in playing and sound quality, though stereo separation sometimes is not well expressed,
but definitely not a Must-Buy for either of the musicians.
