This is a decent cd by Jobim, it starts off great, but tends to get a little avante garde on a couple of songs. Plenty of great players on this one : Deodato as an arranger and guitarist, Ron Carter on Bass, Hubert Laws on Flute, etc. Check out Wave/Tide and the song Favela.

Listen to the samples and you will not need anyone's comments. "Wave", "Tide", "Stone flower" and the rest of the albums with Jobim's music will live for ever. Smooth, relaxing, stylish.

I'll add my praises of this disc to all the others. I fell totally in LOVE with Bossa Nova back in high school. I collected everything I could, from Best of Sergio Mendes - which is also very highly recommended to those who love this genre- to Joao Gilberto. In fact I made a trip to Brazil back in 1975 because I had to see this land where this sublime music came from. Anyway back to the disc. I had everything Jobim had recorded but this one intrigued me the most. It was his darkest and most complex. Worth adding to any collection of jazz, bossa, latin or anything else.

Maybe the most precious Jobim treasure

Another 5-star Jobim collaboration with producer Creed Taylor for his CTi label with arrangements by Deodato and a team of Jazz master musicians featuring Urbie Green and Hubert Laws.

Repertoire consists of Jobim material except for traditional Brazilian composer Ary Barroso's 'Brazil'.

Part of Jobim's compositions is music he composed for the film 'The Adventurers' also with arrangements by Deodato, issued in a very rare soundtrack album by Paramount label. Unfortunately, out of print.

Refer to the beautiful waltz 'Children's Games' which was also recorded by Elis Regina in her 'Elis & Tom' under the Portuguese title 'Chovendo na Roseira'.

A fundamental Jobim and Bossa Nova and Great Music album!

Mere words just aren't enough...

This is the greatest in bossa nova bar none and would be my pick of what music straight from Heaven sounds like. Antonio Carlos Jobim is the underrated genius of the genre and his recordings are beyond words for description. Both cuts of "Brazil" are priceless and the song "Sabia" is worth the price of this album alone. The new 2002 reissue has new liner nothes and a crystal-clear sound, giving them the greatest of sound quality for the full effect. Do yourself a favor and get this, it will send you to places you never thought possible.

I've been listening to this CD for many years and it only gets better with time. Pour a glass of really good cab that has great depth, sit back and take 30 minutes to really enjoy ana and the experience of the very best listening you will ever find.

Better yet, share her with a friend....

The recording (I have the gold version) and performance are first rate. I also own her 'Amazonia' (which I like very much) and believe this is a superior performance. The selections are mostly laid-back with spare instrumentation....and oh...that chesky sound! Why don't more recording studios capture sound like this? These tunes have a different flair from the popular Jobim output....but they are masterfully and tastefully done. Tom would be proud.

Jobim made it a lifelong practice to be in tune with the stirrings of the heart.

Much to our good fortune, his Muse never abandoned him.

With all our mixed up feelings for Jobim in the late 90's when the World wasn't ready to say goodbye to our beloved Composer, one of his last CD's, Antonio Brasileiro, could've been bittersweet, but there's a lovely variety of fun filled tracks that build up to the haunting Trem De Ferro.

Solid.

Truly, at the backbone of the Jobim Songbook.

Jobim continues to inspire and win hearts.

Look at the way Winter warms up to Spring.

Don't turn your back on our Mother Earth.

Dance with her.

Antonio Brasileiro is a wonderful, essential collection of diverse sounds. This album is certainly directed more towards an American audience than other releases with Jobim. It's a very sultry, light, blissful collection of tunes. "So Danco Samba" is very reminiscent of earlier Tom Jobim releases with a new twist that makes it fun and adorable. Background vocals are emphasized more on this ablum than other Jobim albums. In general the album is light, relaxing, happy, and optimistic. Ex-Policer, Sting, makes a guest appearance on "How Insensitive (Insensatez)." Sting does a nice job, but I think he's a bit out of place on the album. There are some tunes on the album which have more of a general jazz sound than what I think of as "Bossa Nova." For example, "Blue Train." The tune "Samba de Maria Luiza" is adorable and includes a guest appearance by a little girl, which I believe is Jobim's daughter. The album cover includes beautiful photographs of wildlife and landscape scenes of Brazil.

This is the most memorable and beautiful album recorded by Jobim and I am delighted that he left this lovely legacy which makes up for the horrible collaborative last recording that featured a cast if thousands (among them, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Gal Costa, Jon Hendricks, etc. plus Jobim's voice demonstrates his ill health) and left this listener cold and empty.

Several of the homespun reviewers identified the little girl, Maria Luiza, as his daughter. She is, I believe, his grandchild and daughter to either Paulo or Daniel Jobim. This is something that needs to be properly addressed because there are no liner notes nor translations to the lyrics.

I would give this album ten (10) stars if it were possible.

Absolutley amazing

This album is full of Jobim's best. My favorite song is "Querida", in which a deceptively sunny, gentle melody flows under heartbreaking lyrics. I'm just learning Portuguese, and I'm amazed at the contrast between so many of Jobim's smooth, lovely melodies and the depth of the feelings that the words reveal. "Blue Train" is drenched in sun. Jobim sings two songs with his daughter, and Sting shows up on "How insensitive", singing it very nicely in English.Every time I listen to this CD, I hear something new. He is the best.

This is a great Concert from beginning to end. There are three fantastic pianist and Ron Carter proves he is still the man on the Acoustic bass. It is impossible to pick a bad Jobim tune, because he never learned how to write a tune that did not sound great. Buy this Dvd, BUT before you play it, get some popcorn, food drinks or whatever it is you like to eat or drink, then sit back and enjoy the show over and over again.
