Bossa Nova Music

4sisters hamony is very beatiful! This album is first alubum of quartete em cy. So then I bought 3 albums of quartete em cy.

Excellent if eclectic sampling of 1960's bossa nova, especially at the price, with 18 tracks all by different artists/combos. Only gripe is that it does not cover everyone from Brasil that I think should be on here, while it does catch some peripheral US artists - most notable absence is João Gilberto.

However I can't really complain about presence of Stan Getz, Joe Pass, Ella Fitzgerald, Coleman Hawkins, Oscar Peterson; and Brasiliero/as include Tamba Trio, Sergio Mendes, Sylvia Telles, Baden Powell, Edu Lobo, Astrud Gilberto, Luiz Bonfa, Laurindo Almeida, and last but nowise least, the superb Tom (Antonio Carlos) Jobim who also composed no fewer than 11 of the 18 tracks.

Like I said it's eclectic, with 11 instrumentals to 7 vocals; and while most songs are familiar, they're not always the familiar versions: eg. "Wave" is by Art Van Damme, "Desafinado" by Coleman Hawkins - and they're great! The liner has full recording dates and lineups.

PS did I mention this collection has stunningly beautiful music from start to finish?

Emilio Santiago's been voted Brazil's best male vocalist several years in a row, and this is another perfect example of his talents.
These tracks represent perhaps the best Bossa Nova standards of all time (except for "Samba de Verao" that was not included in this CD), singing songs by the best songwriters of the genre like: Jobim / De Moraes / Lyra / Valle / Motta / Menescal / Boscoli / Bonfa / Maria / Donato / Barroso / Powell / Veloso (Post Bossa Nova) / Pinto Ferreira.
The absolute highlights here are:
- Voce E Eu
- Doce Viver (superb...)
- Rio
- Bateu Pra Tras
- Faixa de Cetim
- Garota de Ipanema.

So, if you're a Bossa Nova fan and don't have this wonderful effort in your collection, you're missing out everything...
