Bossa Nova Music

This is an amazing compilation of tunes. It creates the perfect setting for a flavorfull dinner party. We heard this CD playing at our favorite Latin restaraunt and now it is one of our MOST played! Everyone that hears it asks us for the title and for a copy of it...from my Mom to my friend who is a choregraper. It will make your soul soar and your mind will go to Bossa heaven!

This is a great CD for those warm sunny pool parties down here in south florida. Get the Blender and the party people together because these grooves transmit the vibes for a sultry smooth afternoon! A must for a friends get together!

I love this album! I am on my second copy (the first got stolen out of my car!) and it never stops making me want to dance. It is especially good to listen to when outside in the sun.

If you enjoy jazz with a modern beat and a bit of a latino touch, you'll love this. They play this CD at one of the most popular clubs here in DC. It's definitely great party music.

I'm new to the latin jazz/bossa nova sound but I love it already. This album swings and features a clean, grooving sound. Good use of catchy riffs and occasional voices. For drummers, the album is a good practice vehicle for snare and rim work. A perfect record for hanging out at home with your woman, slowly getting loaded, but would also make a good party record. Best tracks: first, fifth and last. I'm hooked.

I've heard all of the discs in the Bossa Brava series, and this one is by far the best. If your into that percussive, latin/brasilian-influenced style of acid jazz, look no further. The copy I bought had a sticker on the front from the manufacturer that read "10 salsa-soaked grooves to get you hot", and nothing could be more true! This would make a great party album.

Like the can of lite beer that has stayed untouched in the back of my fridge for the past two years, so this cd will remain in the back of my collection for years to come. I am not a big lite jazz fan and feel that this is the genre that this cd comes closest to hitting. I purchased it solely based on my impression of Bossa Brava 3 which really made even this lower lip biting white boy want to get up and dance. If you like lite jazz - try it. If you like latin jazz - try #3.

For some reason this one sounded better at the listening station in the store and failed to deliver once I got it home--go figure. Tropicale doesn't have the dance groove that previous bossa brava compilations had. In fact, this one tries to be a lot cooler--like lounge music but doesn't quit cut it for me. Besides the cuts "Never Before" and "Orbit Lounge" I really can't tell the difference between these. Perhaps it'll grow on me--let's hope.

I discovered Lisa Ono a few years ago when one of her songs was included on a compilation album. I couldn't get her sound out of her head, but I couldn't find any of her CD's here in the US. Then a few summers ago I traveled to Taiwan, where she is a big star, (via influence from Japan) and bought every Lisa Ono CD I could find. Wish she was more well known here! She has such a special, unique voice. It's straight and smooth on the surface, but underneath there are hidden depths of phrasing that create such a pleasing sound. This CD is one of my favorites. It's very clean and rhythmic, with lots of upbeat tracks that are guaranteed to make you feel happy. When I first bought the album, I played "Samba do Soho" about a hundred times and couldn't stop dancing to it! What a great song. "So Danco Samba" is one of my other favorites. The arrangements are so perfectly put together, not one note is out of place. I wish everyone could discover Lisa Ono...we are missing out on a great voice!

I love how these three DJs modernize Bossa Nova by adding new beats... My favorite track is "Maria Moita" and I love the vocals on mostly all tracks... I definitely recommend any nu world dj pick this cd up... It's guaranteed to be a hit - Savannah Skye...

Danceable, fun, creative -- if you're not in a good mood when you start listening to this, you will be by the end of the album. Contagious beat & full of joy for life.

BossaCucaNova is a great new DJ sound obviously aimed at the new generations of Brazilian music fans who are yerning for more than "just" the gold era "MPB" classics they grew up on. This album symbolizes that fusion of DJ sounds and personal new takes on old classics. The only downside to this album is that purists will cringe at it and new listeners who haven't heard the orginals may in some cases lose something in the lack of musical translation. But after all, I think I have 3 favorite MPB takes of Berimbau, and I welcome a this new twist! Another good exmple of this would be "A twist of Jobim" albeit a different sound than this, but it's easily considered a great album.

This is really my Dad's CD, but I burned a copy of it for myself. I'm 16, but I really enjoy this CD (call me crazy!) We first heard it when my Godmother played it on one of our annual sojourns to the magnificent Bass Lake. It's a really fun collection of jazzy hits. This is a really good CD! I love it! Even though I can't understand any of the words, I still love it. My favorite song is Track 2, "Vai De Vez". This CD was really hard for us to track down, because we kept seeing CD's that we thought were this, but turned out not to be. This is a must-have for any CD collection. It's awesome, even for the younger generation, like mine. Enjoy!!!

I can't say I cared much for this album, though I have friends who think it's the bee's knees. Basically, this is a set of gentle bossa nova oldies (the original versions) with loud "funky drummer" snare drum tracks crudely laid down on top of them. Since the whole point of bossa nova was its gorgeous subtlety --especially in the rhythm -- these "remixes" seem rather self-defeating. To the credit of the producers, several tracks are lesser-known compositions, so they get points for going off the beaten track. Anyway, as I mentioned, I know folks who liked this record, so although I think this is all horribly, horribly wrong, I'm sure other folks will have a much different response.
