Bossa Nova Music

Well, yes and no. All the melodies are good swinger fare, but none of the others have the magic of the super-famous first track. Play it at your next dinner party; everyone will love "Soul Bossa Nova", then settle into conversation while the rest of the album fills the background.

this is Big Band Bossa Nova, when the Bossa Nova was a big craze, back in the early 60's, arranged and produced by the MASTER, Quincy Jones. Still sounds good today.........

Unfortunately percussion has completeley spoiled all tracks.
This is not Bossa Nova,not even Samba.

I absolutely LOVE this CD! It always puts me in the happiest of moods. Funny thing is, I had no idea that it was originally from the early 60's! It sounds fantastic!

Very, very disappointing. One star, and only because of the arrangement of Serenata -- otherwise, 1/2. Go with Quarteto em Cy or Joao Donato, any of Tom Jobim's CDs are preferable -- maybe Gal Costa sings Jobim.

Sorry to say, this is a TERRIBLE album -- he was just trying to capitalize on a "thing" at the time..... disappointing. Period.

Most BossaNova is best when done by small groups -- BUT, if you insist on a big/larger bands, get Stan Getz's Big Band Bossa Nova CD. That's a terrific album. This flat-out STINKS (and I like most of Q's other work).

As a qualifier of sorts, I've been to Rio, am a former broadcaster and DO know music.

Doug Munro aided by a talented bunch of top musicians create intriguing, multi-layered arrangements of both original and well-known songs. Munro's facile guitar and other lead instruments move in perfect tandem before spinning off on well-thought-out, pleasing improvs which move skillfully around the bossa nova beat in intricate rhythmic riffs. You can listen to this tasty treat many times and find little listening treasures each time. A special surprise for those who want to step past Girl from Ipanema.
