I am a classical guitarist and I love the music of Laurindo Almeida. I ordered this CD expecting to hear excellent Bossa
Nova that would have the cool sounds of Jobim combined with the steady, wonderful rhythms of this genre. Instead, I have
a CD of elevator music. The dominant instrument in this combo is an organ. Now, organs are not bad if played by a competent
player, such as one hears in Perez Prado. But this organ reminded me more of what one hears at high mass. Save your money.

A delightful melange of 60s Latin sounds. Aural silk!

This album brought back warm and delightful memories of my youthful experiences in the 1960s. "More", played in the only way
that it should be, is an all-time favourite and is as exotic now as it was 30 years ago. "I Left My Heart in San Francisco"
will be forever associated with Tony Bennett but this Latin version is equally splendid. "Desafinado" is synonymous with
Laurindo Almeida and the two go together as if destiny deemed it. All told, a wonderful recording and one that should certainly
form the centre-piece of the collection of even the most critical of Bossa Nova afficianados.

The sophisticated sound of Brasil '66 is instantly recognizable on every track. The title track out sold the Beatles version
and together with Scarborough Fair went Top 20!
The soaring vocal harmonies of Lani Hall and Karen Philipp, coupled with the sexy, sultry arrangements (which are a trade mark of Sergio Mendes) make for spine tingling easy listening.
Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas is a fan and his teaming with Sergio Mendes on the recent Timeless will hopefully bring Brasil '66/'77/'86/'88 etc to a new generation.

The Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 formula on "Fool on the Hill" was quite simple. Take pop hits like the title track by the
Beatles and "Scarborough Fair" by Simon & Garfunkle, add a bossa nova rhythm and some lavish string accompaniment by Dave
Grusin to Mendes on the piano and the vocals by Lani Hall, and you have some easy listening hits. "Fool on the Hill" followed
"Look Around," giving Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 two solid albums in 1968 (please, do not revive the debate over why it was
not Brasil '68), although I have a slight preference for this collection. The reason is that why this album hooks you with
the covers, both of which charted in the Top 20, it is the original compositions that you end up loving. The two best on
this album are "Casa Forte" and "Upa, Neguinho," which are as fine as any of the group's original sons as they ever recorded.
In the Sixties this was the sound of international music and the opening of the door for pretty much all of the Latin American
recording artists who came afterwards. "Fool on the Hill" was the best selling album by Sergio Mendes, although a large measure
of the credit might be due not to the music but rather the cover, which folded out to show the group at a gorgeous sunset...sitting
on top of a nude woman. Ah, to be in Rio at Carnival time...

I got this CD on a whim and when I played it was completely awe struck. I can't after hearing imagine going another day without
it. It is truly a work of art that will last the proverbial "generations".

"Fool on the Hill" is my favorite album by "Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66." If you like Brazilain-Latin music you will love
this. Actually I think it's a better album than their "Greatest Hits." It is a real shame that the music industry doesn't
promote music like this anymore. The music is full of soul, a very creative and innovative effort. It's just priceless.

This is a collection taken from the vaults of the Verve and Mercury labels, featuring easy listening jazz from the 1940s to
the 1960s. It has 12 cuts starting with "Night Train," and ending with "Autumn Leaves." It includes Stan Getz, Charlie Parker,
Wes Montgomery, Gerry Mulligan, and other artists. Total playing time is not given.

There is an implied mellow or introspective mood with an album called LATE NIGHT JAZZ. Such dreamy feelings are well-established
on this collection until Charlie Parker jars us from our reveries and gets the cops banging on the door with his blaring and
raucous rendition of "Night And Day." This jolt halfway through the set is enough to give a ferret insomnia!
Except for that one misstep (and a quick poke-in-the-ribs crescendo on "Body And Soul"), LATE NIGHT JAZZ consistently delivers perfect wee small hours music, as performed by some of the best names in mid-20th century jazz. Transfer quality here is top notch-- songs are full-length. No liner notes beyond a playlist.

While it would be nice to have Brasil '65 in CD format, this album is close enough to satisfy me. The only difference I detected
was a minor change in phrasing in the song "So Nice."

It is fair to say that the material contained on this album is pleasing enough to listen to,and maybe,in Brazil, these sides
were local hits(although this is doubtful),but the fact of the matter remains that it was not until Mendes put together Brazil'66
and put out albums on the A & M label that he actually had hit records...To say the these are"greatest hits" is to be deliberately
deceptive...These are early sides, recorded when Mendes and his band were local artists..Sure,they sound similiar to his later, hit
sides, but, afterall,it was essentially the same band with the same personel...So if you actually remember any of these obscure
sides,or if you are a Mendes completist, this is something that you will want to own,HOWEVER,if you are looking for the artist
at his peak then fast-forward to BRAZIL'66,and there you will find the real"greatest hits"...

I was 15 when I discovered "Sergio Mendes & Brazil 65". I'd never heard of Sergio Mendes, but there was something about the
cover that intrigued me. This was the beginning of a love afair with Brazilian music that has never faded over the years.
I played the heck out of this record. I still have it, battered cover and all in my collection. After the dawn of CD's I often
looked for it in record stores, but I never found it. What a jewel to discover here! (I only wish it had the original cover.)
After 36 years it has lost none of its beauty and power.

Bossa Nova is very sensual rythm, you can feel the hot of the Brasilean becheas, also is a relaxing music and hold your main
in a state that you can imagine or create things.
In this crazy world, is too nice hear music like this, to back at your bases.
I was looking for a CD like this in CD's stores of my city, but no one of them have any one. I feel good to find it here.
Thank you and keep in touch.
