THIS IS A VERY GOOD OVERVIEW OF THE BROTHERS JOHNSON'S WORK. THE MINOR FLAWS ARE THAT "TOMMORROW" & THUNDER THUMBS & LIGHTING LICKS" WERE NOT ON THIS DISC. CHECK OUT ANY QUINCY JONES RECORD BETWEEN 1974 & 1989 TO SEE WHAT FINE SESSION MUSICIANS THEY (BROTHERS JOHNSON) WERE!

Where would hip-hop be today without the funky rhythms of the 1970's? One of the premier "messengers" of that particular sound was the Brothers Johnson.

This duo produced, with a little help from the man lovingly referred to as "Q", some of the most memorable jams of the day. "Ain't We Funkin' Now", "Strawberry Letter #23", "Stomp", "Runnin' for Your Lovin'", "Get the Funk Out Ma Race" and "I'll be Good to You" are just six of the smokers found on this compilation.

A choice cut is the lesser-known instrumental "Tokyo". This little ditty shows the boys versatility, revealing that they can "quiet storm" with the best of 'em.

This album contains all of the Brothers Johnson's biggest known singles. In addition to all the familiar hits, there are some lesser known songs that are nearly as good, making this compilation, the definitive retrospective.
If you are into the classic soul sound, this album is definitely worth it.
It is worth mentioning that the brothers are back playing together, and they are expected to release a new album very soon

Incredible!

My favorite music is Disco and Latin. The groups that stoke me the most are Kool & the Gang, Chic, EWF, French Kiss, Tito Puente, El Chicano and Malo. If much of this is the type of music you are into, by all means, read on.
As was done by another reviewer, I purchased this album exclusively for 'Stomp' and 'Strawberry Letter'. Imagine my surprise after listening to 'Light Up The Night', and 'The Real Thing', which are even better. Close behind are 'Ride-O-Rocket','Get The Funk Out Ma Face' and 'You Keep Me Comin' Back'. IMHO, the absolute best cut on this album is the first one...'Ain't We Funkin' Now'. Talk about feeling the music.
15 songs. None of them bad. Nine of them are super.

This album has all their top songs and is by far the most cost effective. Other albums by the BJ, while good, have hit-N-miss coverage. There is a lot of replication between albums, but none of them as comprehensive as GREATEST HITS.

Enjoy!

the Brothers Johnson have always had that soulful vibe and other hybrids of musical stylings in there music. they hit you with the tight funk on "Ain't we funky now" and the monster Jam of "Stomp" where louis"Thunderthumps" Johnson drops the Boom on the Bass. Quincy Jones has his trademark Production which Grooves non-stop.

then you get the classic Shuggie Ottis cover of "Strawberry Letter 23" and that classic Lee Ritenour solo.

Land of Ladies is still my jam. I'll Be Good to you with that tight vamp and background vocals. the horn blast "The Real Thing". alot of classic jams on here.

Six volumes in this series, as well as the companion disc "Club Columbia" which started this series, gets you a load of 12" versions never before on CD. But for some reason, this volume contains several tracks that are either album versions or edited from their original 12" versions. Track list:

1. it's a disco night (5:14)
2. I love music (6:05)
3. uptown festival (8:50)
4. dance with you (5:35)
5. conga (5:59)
6. I don't want to be a freak (7:22)
7. ain't no stopping us now (7:00)
8. vertigo/relight my fire (9:00)
9. don't you want my love (4:58)
10. you stepped into my life (5:06)
11. family affair (3:50)
12. give me just a little more time (7:39)

Good Series

I bought this CD for Angela Clemmons.Wanted to replace the LP that was so worn. It's a real shame they didn't offer the 30 second intro that showed her vocal range. Thats the reason I wanted the CD! My org.was worn out from many plays in the DJ booth. Their all classic songs. Their all mostly long vers. but Not the org 12".

3 classic albums for one low price...Wow!

If you're a fan of classic soul music then you should not hesitate to purchase this. $24 is an excellent bargain for three quality albums. I purchased this box set about 6 months ago and I must say that all three discs get spins on my cd changer constantly. The Isley Brothers show versatility on these three LPs. It goes from upbeat cuts like "Fight the Power" to mellow tracks like "Footsteps in the Dark" then to soulful classics like "For the Love of You Pts. 1&2". Out of all three discs I have to say that Between the Sheets is my favorite. It's the perfect album for setting the mood on a special night. I recommend you buy this box set now.

This is a MUST buy!!!!

If you like the Isley Brothers, then I feel you should spend the amount asked and buy the CD set. This is one of the best compilations I have heard in a long time. Also I recomend it if you are into hip-hop or rap music. Many of the Isley Brothers original music are used in some of todays hip-hop songs. Such songs have been "Today was a good day" Ice cube was originally "Footsteps in the Dark". Another example is "Between the sheets" was used in a Notorious BIG song. So if you are a fan of either hip hop or old school. Buy this CD!!!!!!!!
