Anyone who is a fan of Dave Brubeck knows the talent he has shown throughout the years. It is genetic as well, as the talent
portrayed by Dan and Chris (Dave's Sons) is equally impressive. Time signature changes, rythym changes and mood creation are
all smooth and effortless. Listening to this set is like being in on a private jam session at the Brubeck home. Best cuts,
in my opinion are 'King for a Day' with bass solo and 'Jazzanians' with Drum solo. A must have for any Brubeck collection!

I do wish I could give this album five stars, but old-fashioned as I am, I simply do not get on with Bergonzi's sax sound.
Try as I might I find his solos both harsh and pointless -- YMMV.
Turning to happier things, there are lovely bits, like the nod to fugue in Brother Can You Spare a Dime (not to mention the cheeky quote from Rachmaninov!). But what really stands out for me is Chris Brubeck's contribution. His electric bass is somewhat more assertive than is often the case, and it has some great duets with Dave's piano, showing a wonderful rapport between the two Brubecks, particularly on Brother Can You Spare a Dime and on Tritonis. And when the bass comes in after Randy Jones' excellent brief solo on Mr.Fats, and is then joined by the piano -- the resulting sound is the purest joy! By nice contrast, Lord,Lord is restrained and quite haunting, again thanks to Chris Brubeck, this time on a bass trombone.
Dave himself is on excellent form, clearly enjoying himself, but then what else is new? :-)
In short a great but flawed album with some magic touches. If you like Brubeck's music, get Tritonis, tweak up the base on your hi-fi, and enjoy! (Just a shame about that sax...)

I was disappointed by this work; I expected something more "traditional" and less "experimental" sounding. I'll probably
donate my copy to the local public library.

As if Dave Brubeck wasn't already a monster talent, his sons? The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree here. By luck I got
to see them live in '73 at the Waikiki Shell, front row, center. One of the most astonishing shows I've ever seen. The drummer
Danny was 18 years old and played this little black Fibes kit and just ripped our heads off! Chris and Darius had equal genius
on their instruments and Dave couldn't be more proud. Blue Rondo and Circadian are my faves but I agree with the other reviewer
here that "Thank You" is one of the most beautiful piano pieces ever. Thrilled that the CD finally showed up, my vinyl's
shot!

I first heard this album at its original release. I'd been familiar with Brubeck from his earlier performances, but was completely
unprepared for this. If you're already a Brubeck fan, you'll love the incredible performance of Blue Rondo a la Turk: electric
violin and a rocking harmonica solo. Brubeck's in fine form as well.
But the core reason for buying this CD; the last track, "Thank You". It is literally the most beautiful piece of solo piano music I have ever heard. Period. If you can imagine Chopin fused with the best jazz piano you've ever heard, you'll come close. (But just buy the CD and listen to it. You'll see.)
The other tracks on this CD are certainly worthy and well-performed, but they're like the other mountains around Everest: comparatively, just places that aren't quite as high. I'm giving it five stars because of the two unequaled perfomances. It's not often that I'd recommend buying a CD for just one track, but for "Thank You", I can't say enough.
