Though many prefer Teagarden as a sideman in other small groups, because his orchestra wasn't as hot as it's competitors in
the 40's, there are some classic performances here, even if his orchestra was somewhat commercial, and the only worthwhile
soloist is Teagarden. There are some small groups Teagarden led that are hot and feature heated solos by some jazz all-stars,
different personel then in his big band on "In My Solitude" "I'm Sorry I Made You Cry" "Mighty Lak A Rose" "Star Fell On
Alabama" and "Deed I Do." Some of the big band highlights are "St. Jmaes Infimary" "Black & Blue" and a classic Teagarden
vocal on "A Hundred Years From Today." Plus Teagarden, Bing Crosby & Mary Martin singing joyfully on "The Waiter, The Porter
& The Upstairs Maid" plus Crosby's crooning on "Birth Of The Blues." Yes this is the difinitive CD of Teagarden's big band
and small group. recomended
