An unexpected discovery on a strange avenue !

After checking their website www.bagdat-avenue.com I decided to give "BA" a chance. The album is a collection of different composers under one roof. However, the quality of the compositions and the performance of the band make you follow the album without hesitation.

The chase-sequence oriented opening act "M&S" leads you into "jam on baghdad" which might have multiple meanings. "Casual Song" is an acoustic ballad and deserves to be the "hit" of the album. "Lunafunk" has a memorable and lovely bass riff and the sax solo on it is quite hot. The jazz-oriented "Prisoner" is one of the best recorded songs. The pop-oriented "Checkmate" follows this path. On "Blackness" the group again performs in harmony and lifts the song to a stellar dimension. "U are so beautiful" makes you remember of Police and Sting. "In disgrace" has a strong ending and this ending leads to "19-22" which is the only jazz-metal example of the album.

The range of influences is so diverse, I suspect their future material could be much more surprising...

Interesting first album from a "hard to categorise" band

When I first put this CD in my player, I was not expecting such diverse album because of relatively modest album cover. But what I listened is a very well crafted mix of Rock, Jazz and Pop in the style of Steely Dan, Prince and even some Limp Bizkit in the end.
Performance is flawless and compositions are really unique. Harmonies are rich and melodies are catchy. There is a Pop attitude definitely but arrangements are quite complex. Also I must admit that lyrics are really heartfelt and honest.
